Service car got a trophy?

Damn... We were racing around and suddenly Widric announced, your March got a trophy!

WTF?

I must say, I was kinda amazed as the car was hiding behind all the racers, was, and still is, multi filthy, and was loaded with tools and our personal belongings. All the flashy tuning cars with shining paint work, bikini babes, loud ICE's etc, were elsewhere. How did... why did... Hell! I wasn't there for show! I was there for go! :D

Best Of Finland :D Thanks for the picture Widric :D

Animal Of the Month

Inspired by C-Rock, I thought to paste this picture of a creature to here :) Why? Just for fun of course!

M

ps. It is cute...

Away for few days

Finally... It's been way too long since I've been away from this country. At least 8 months or so...

I'll be heading to Estonia for drifting competition. We were supposed to have S14 racing there (not the one we are racing USA though ;D ), but the tuning of EMS was not possible to finish in time. So, we head there with the spare vehicle, BNR32 :D Remove the fuse and let the rear wheels spin!

Nissan Power!

I try to find WLAN to update some pics. If I can't you'll get them in next week :)

Photos lost...

Don't know what happened. I happily surfed to the blog pages, and half of the photos are missing!

WTF?

If they are not gonna start working within reasonable time, I'm gonna call to the bloggers union and demand our rights!

Checkings

As the K11 was lifted, I did some checking to it again.

My toe angle is still wrong and it eats the inner section of the front tires badly. I should fix this asap and I do hope I am able to it within few weeks. I'm not so pleased for this especially when this tire size (195/45R15) is not easily available from this backwater called Finland.

My brakes shake a bit so I checked the disk surface. There are a lot of visible hints of stuck particles on the disk, thus explaining the phenomena. I'll try to arrange brake service day asap too. The pedal feels soft and weak anyway, indicating for bad fluids.

Bad Picture. I try to get another one.

The Cusco suspension kit is still kinda fresh :) That is nice to know, especially when the cops in Turku had something to say about my rides height XD I'll explain it latter in separate entry.

Otherwise, the car seems to be in mint condition. Especially after changing the timing chain tensioner. The entry of it is under construction and will be published soon. Stay tuned :)

Looks like my laptop is ready from the self tests. I'll shut it down and wish good night for all the internetz in sleeping time zones. :)

おやすみなさい!

Yet another annoying rattle

Even though the heat shields are very useful, they can also be a pain in the butt for an owner of a fairly old vehicle.

I guess my March's heat shield did not like all that heat I managed to produce on my trips to Turku. The engine was running way too hot all the time, I can tell this from the spark plugs [which are white] and from the performance which was simply non-existing.

So, I lifted the FWD-March up to see the damage.

And what did I find this time - the rear end of the heat shield had totally failed from the attachments and cracked after vibrating wildly of the fierce velocity of Mach 2 [see the older posts].

Heat shield has been attached, but is not any longer.

The cracking. Right in front of the Lambda probe.

The tools, and Sandels, to the rescue! Hose clamp, heavy duty version, can do the job as I want. Securing the heat shield where it belongs!

Tools and essentials.

As a result, I did not hear any side noises anymore. Thus, I was successful!

Busyness causes stress

As if you did not know, busyness can cause awful stress :/ Especially if ones own matters are not taken care of.

I've taken few trips to Turku during last few weeks. Both times I've been running a bit late of the schedule, so I've had to take the March close to Mach 2! It almost tore the car into particles. In addition of extreme gasoline consumption, I got few side noises to the car. Some weird resonation, which is really annoying. I think it is a heat shied, but I must check. The sound stresses me, thus making the idling my personal Elm Street nightmare. The noise is the Freddy Krueger, growing in my imagination, making my life constant nightmare even when I am awake...

Been busy - as usual.

I've been too busy to do anything fun or interesting with my baby car. Added some stickers though :D

Soon is midsummer, in a week to be exact, so I'll probably have some spare time to be spent. And I intend to use it well!

Breathing

As the CG10DE is a hard breather, this one at least, so I built an oil catch can for it :) True DSG creativity with some JDM influence and tadaa, here it is:

The location isn't the most optimum one, but it is stable there :) Secured it with cable tie :D

Interestingly, but not surprisingly, the CG10DE response better now. Also, especially at the present with broken MAF, the idling is much smoother and the engine doesn't wobble around the engine bay as much as it did. I guess, the amount of fuel is now much larger than the amount of oil in low revs. Which obviously was not the case before :D Making of this could had saved the MAF, but little did I know that I even had one...

M

New Belts

Installed new belts.

The installation wasn't as easy task as I have used to with Honda. The belts are too short and adjustability of the alternator is way too short. I had to remove the Alternator in order to remove the belt.

M

New Fuel Filter

The stalling did not stop even with sealing the manifold, so I changed the fuel filter.

Didn't help, but filter is changed.

M

Checking and Fixing

The idling was awful and exhaust gasses leaked around the manifold. So, I cleaned the air filter and checked Lambda Probe. Also replaced the headers gaskets and bolts for the exhaust pipes flexible attachment.

Playing with Cameras and Urban District

How cool! My March is a super model :D

Me and C-Rock had a bit fool time together :D It all started with agony against the things we should do. Supporting each other, we made a decision to head for Pasila’s underground hideout to clean my March. The results are here to be seen. Pls enjoy and leave a comment.

ps. It’s all taken with my phone cam, and only for fun :)

Oil Service

I was driving around and got an urge to change the oils. The engine sound was so awful, that I was afraid it will brake down on me. So, I visited our local car part shop and spotted some interesting oils in there.

Valvoline MAX LIFE! Engine oil for old engines :D

My first thought was "yeah right..." and I passed the oil cans. But then my interests started to tickle me and I walked back. I red the little prints, which were rather stimulating :) It promised to be good oil for old seals etc etc, so I thought "why not". I bought it and new cheap oil filter and changed them under warm spring sun.

I also changed the oil filter. Cheap basic filter, probably much poorer than the Nissan OEM :/ Didn't have any better at hand and other bad excuses. Kids, never do as I do, do as i tell you! And I tell you to use proper parts on your vehicles! :D

I must say that I was happily surprised! It seemed to run smoother, it was more quiet (which is normal after oil change) and it has kept that way ever after the oil change. So my conclusion is, it was good stuff for my engine :) I hope I haven't flooded it with fuel already, cause today it smelled kinda stinging, like it does after excessive flooding of fuel in the cylinders.

I left the DSG rather late, and for my surprise, it was snowing! Fook!

Don't you just love Finnish weather?

M

Services and things.

March, march, forward MARCH!

I've been toying with the March for some time now. Have made this and that plus educated my self with it's anatomy. It is still broken, more than ever, but runs nicely. The reason was also found out, MAF, which I did not even know to own. Bloody hell that is one doomsday invention. Fails on every car :D

And how I found it out? Well... There came a day when I was kinda racing through an exit and the engine stalled. I thought it was a lack of fuel, but it obviously wasn't. Later that day, MIL came on and the running of the engine went from horrible to terrible. Within next few days the light turned off and on again, so I figured out some sensor is giving up soon. And it did... I was heading to the DSG and once again the MIL turned off and March run smoooothly :) But later that night I started the engine and it died immediately! FOOK! I managed to get it idling, barely, so I could check which sensor or coil was causing me head ache and finally found one coil to not change the idling. So I removed the plugs and checked them. Equally black, every one. Conclusion, something else is wrong and the plugs are just bad because of that.

I got it running again, but it still put black smoke, or Black ghost (like C-Rock named it) through Reinhart Titanium muffler. At this point I started to loose my temper as the clock was way too much and I needed to be somewhere else already. So I started my diagnosing again in  frustration without any good results until I remembered the bloody MAF again! I unplugged it and TADAA, the March started to run like a little angle again.

Now, after I've been running around few days without MAF and on "emergence program", I noticed that the engine is actually rather good compared to driving it with broken MAF :)

And what may have caused this? Well, there is two reasons that I can see, and both are oil-related. 1st, the engine breaths heavily making the throttle body assembly all oily, thus oiling the MAF. 2nd, I have a K&N oiled air filter, which is known to cause problems to MAFs. Personally I have hard times in believing that the K&N has caused any problems at all. It could cause, if the re-oiling after washing was done with excess amounts of that red oil, but it was not. Second reason why I do not believe that is, that I met the same problem long long ago before that K&N was even installed on the March. And when I installed it, I noticed that the OEM air filter box was full of oil.

So my conclusion is, the March have had wrong type of oils or it has not had regular oil changes at some point of it life. Both theories will lead to excessive mechanical wearing, thus the engine is not able to hold combustion pressures on top of the piston as the tolerances are not anymore what were supposed to be. After it started to leak the pressures, the oiling of the intake started, thus oiling the MAF. Once the got oiled, the ECU used more fuel than needed. Excessive amounts of fuel got into the engine oil (this can be easily smelled from the oils), thus making it too "lean" which lowers the oil pressure and oils lubricating capabilities.

More of these in the next posts in which I'll tell what I have been doing :D ... exciting ...

Brömbröm!

Engine overhaul demanded! Or replacement of the engine. Or...

Pheh. I need money. Give it to me!

Found the papers!

Yay! Found them from the same place I put them some months ago. Logically. Dunno why I didn't see them there even though I looked probably more than five times to the same place :/

Anyway, the K11 is back on the road. And yes, it is as fun as ever!  \o/

Something from the archives

Yup. I dug out some pics from last summer. I think this is completely how it was before I bought it. Looks like there is plenty to do for me :)

Dumdidum

I got urge to dig the little baby Nissan out of the UG garage. Got some serious business to do ;D

Anyway, huge thanks for C-Rock for helping me out with this :) Now I'm able to do what ever is needed to do.

Yay! It's clean.

It was dirty, but now it's clean.

The battery was flat, but I raced around the parking hall, so now there is some energy stored into the battery.
I hope I'm able to relocate those important peaces of paper tomorrow. Then, it's time for spring spin!

Lost the papers! :/

Bummer! I would had dug the March out of the garage-cave tonight, but the bloody registration papers I need for our authors are no where to be found. WTF?!

*sigh*

Winter

As you may have noticed, there has not been much of activity in few last months. Well... It's because nothing has happened.

As C-Rok stated in his blog, we all have been too busy doing what ever we do :( Plus now it is winter time and our babies are sleepign :)

I try to get something here, some day.
